About MomentGlow
The people behind the brass rail.
Forty-one people keep MomentGlow running: dealers who deal, chefs who cook, and a front desk that has never once said "that's not my department". This is who we are and how the place got built.
Time capsule
From wool store to late nights.
The short version of a long renovation — the parts worth telling, anyway.
2017
A wool store with good bones
The building on South Road had been empty for a decade. One walkthrough and the plan wrote itself: hotel upstairs, something more interesting downstairs.
2019 — Doors open
Eighteen rooms, one restaurant, and a bar that was supposed to be a storage room. The salon followed eight months later, licence and all.
2021 — The hard year, and the good one
Borders closed, so we rebuilt the conference hall and the kitchen instead. Best worst timing we've ever had.
2023 — The Vault opens
The old manager's office became the VIP room. The 1923 safe still guards the chips.
Next cycle
2027 — The garden wing
Twelve more rooms on the courtyard side, and a proper green wall. The plans are drawn; the council has opinions.
The method
03
Three rules we actually enforce.
Not values on a wall — rules with consequences, applied the same to the penthouse and the walk-in.
The artefact
The 1923 house ledger
Every complaint, compliment and broken glass since opening night, in the same book. It's the only KPI we trust.
Rule 01
Face-to-face, always
Bookings, complaints, payouts — all settled in person, by a person. It's slower and it's better.
Rule 02
The floor is fair or it's closed
Dealers rotate, wheels are serviced on schedule, and the payout standards are the NZ ones — not "house interpretation" of them.
Rule 03
Nobody walks alone
If a guest has had a night, we walk them to the taxi. It's in the induction, and it's non-negotiable.
The roster
The people you'll actually meet.

Two open roles: night auditor and second chef.
Real jobs, rosters published a month ahead, and a staff meal that the kitchen is genuinely proud of. Write to momentglow@gmail.com with "Careers" in the subject.
Selected work — 01/04
The salon refit, winter 2025.
In-house build crew of six, two local joiners, one very patient electrician.
Scope
Full refit of the gaming floor: new tables, lighting, acoustic ceiling and the brass rail everyone photographs.
See it in personThe salon stayed open every night of the refit. The builders bet on the roulette; the house won.

What we believe
Five things we actually believe.
Written down so we can be held to them. The terms page has the binding versions.
01
Offline, on purpose
No online play, no apps, no remote anything. The venue is the product.
02
Hospitality is a trade
Trained, paid properly, and proud of it. Service is a skill, not a favour.
03
The house keeps its word
Rates quoted are rates charged. Rules fit on one page because they're meant to be read.
04
The neighbourhood is a stakeholder
Caversham gets first call on jobs, and the taxi rank behaves. We live here too.
05
Know when to close
The best night ends while it's still a good story. Host Responsibility isn't a poster — it's practice.
Recognition
2024
Otago Hospitality Awards — Boutique Hotel of the Year. The trophy lives at the bar; ask to see it.
In print
“Dunedin's most convincing argument for staying out late.”
Otago Daily Times, Nov 2025
Media
Press kit, logo pack and photography available on request — no forms, just email.
337 South Road, Caversham
Come and see it in person. That's rather the point.
The kettle's always on at the front desk — or write to momentglow@gmail.com and we'll show you around properly.
